Jerez de la Frontera has been traditionally absent from the itineraries of all but the most thorough of travelers, though in recent years this error is slowly being corrected.  Often overlooked in favor of its more important cousins Cadiz and Seville, visitors are finding in Jerez a city steeped in history, with a wine culture dating back to the Phoenicians, and a strong tradition of horse riding and -breeding. It is the nurturing ground for the Flamenco art-form which is coming into its own on the world music stage.

The Riad (the Arabic word for a courtyard house) offers the visitor the chance to stay in one of the most traditional neighborhoods of Jerez, to experience a sampling of Andalusian life, a stone's throw away from its major monuments, bars and sherry wine cellars. Those discriminating enthusiasts in search of the last "real" Flamenco will find in the vicinity of the Riad no less than three dance academies, a guitar academy and three flamenco peñas which feature artists from the gypsy clans which are reference points in Flamenco history.
